We thank Almighty God for this and trust Him that He will open your hearts to donate for your Estonian Church which is one of the two church buildings in United States owned by Estonians. God has sent us other congregations who love to use our beautiful church building for services. They are supporting our congregation with their donations. Pidagem meeles oma eestpalvetes nii kirkut kui ka arhiivi, et Jumal oma inglitega kaitseb meile pärandatud omandust edasi. ***************** CARE and UPKEEPING of the CHURCH BUILDING We remember with thanksgiving all those Estonians who built the wonderful church building and took care of it. We understand as well that to keep up the building and rooms need of our financial help. None of us are physically able to take care of the repairs and even cleaning. The Church main door does not lock or unlock easily because of swelling and and damage during the many years we have had the church. There are no ready made doors which could replace the excisting door and a new door needs to be custom made. And that is rather expensive. Please donate as much as you can. Your congregation thanks you. We don t know how long we can continue Estonian language services in our church but we can always expand our services using English and if needed Spanish. The church will always be Estonian Lutheran Church and when anybody is interested what does Estonian mean, we have a priviledge to explain and let the persons know what Estonian means, why we have this name for this church. We will be Estonians even if our Estonian language is not on a perfect level. So please help us to keep this wonderful building looking well and in good repair. To help our congregation financially we have allowed three other congregations to use our church, sanctuary and the dining area. We have asked them to donate financially in order to help our congregation. The other congregations are: Word of Life with bishop Campell and his wife, Nueva Vida or New Life with their pastor Carlos Valle and an adventist congregation The Grace Place. The first to
have their services on Sundays, so the church is in use the whole Sunday from morning to evening. The Adventist congregation has their services on Saturdays. They have lady pastor, Rev. Juliana Marson. We thank God for these fellow Christians. SÕNUM/MESSAGE Krituses on ka väike suur Issandas armsad eestlased! Kes suutis arvata, et Eesti Vabariik on kord 101 aastat vana, vaba ja iseseisev riik. Kes suutis arvata eriti aastate 1945 ja 1989 vahel, et Eesti Vabriik saab uuesti iseseisvaks riigiks, ja Eesti pind saab puhtaks Nõukogude Venemaa punasest sõjaväest kui katkust ja julgeoleku ehk KGB kägistavast haardest? Vastus on üks ja sama: Seda uskusid inimesed, kellel oli kustumatu usk õigusse ja vabadusse, mis valitseb üle iga inimliku valitsuse ja sõjaväe ja poliitilise politsei. Ligi viiskümmend aastat oli usklikele kristlastele lootuse kindluseks olnud Jeesuse Kristuse kutse ja lubadus: Tulge minu juure kõik, kes olete vaevatud ja koormatud, ja mina annan teile hingamise. Viiskümmend aastat tundsime eestlastena väetimatust maailma, eriti, suurjõudude poliitika tarkade ja mõistlike meelest,-- aga mitte ilma vabaduse lootuseta Kristuses. Meid peeti lõputult kadunuks Nõukogude Venemaa valitsemise alla. Ka mõned eestlased olid sama meelt. Mäletan kuidas mind kuulutati lihtsaks Ameerika üliõpilaseks, ega peetud enam Eesti Ülliõpilaste Seltsi stipendiaadiks, kellena olin saadetud Soome. See juhtus Soome presidendi Kekkoneni ja tema valitsuse otsuse pärast lõpetada kõik ametlikud kontaktid pagulaseestlastega ja suunata kontakti pidamine Nõukogude Eesti organisatsioonide poole kui jäädava seisukorra poole. Näen paralleeli Eesti rahvusliku olukorra ja uskliku kristlase igapäevase seisukorra vahel. Nagu Kristus oli meie anastajate poolt kütkestatud ja Eestis elavad usklikud ateistliku ikke all, nii tunneme meie usklike kristlastena maailma survet ja halvustamist Kristuse pärast. Püha Vaim kinnitab meid apostel Pauluse kaudu: Kui me ühes temaga (Jeesusega) kannatame, siis meid ühes temaga ka austakse. (Ro. 8:7d) Jeesuse juures maksab väheste ja nõrkade seadus, mitte võimu meelevalla seadus. Nii ajalugu kui meie kogemused usus tähendab absoluutses usalduses Jeesusesse Kristusesse tunnistavad seda. In Christ the small is great Dear fellow Estonians! Every year we are celebrating a national event and have been doing it every year even the times when Estonia was occupied by Soviet Union. It is the one hundred and first year from the Estonian Declaration of Independence that took place on the twenty fourth of February in 1918. It is like the fourth of July is to America. The American Declaration of Independence was published in 1776? 243 years ago. America has gone through bad times in those years, like the Civil War. Estonia has as well. Together with us Latvia and Lithuania, and Finland share the same years and bad and good times. The three Baltic countries have shared years of terrible subjugation and deliverance to freedom. We have suffered in being the forgotten nations of Europe in the politics of great powers who divided Europe into spheres of interests over the people of Europe. I experienced the truth of it when the famous historian and President Kennedy admirer, Arthur Schlesinger, spoke at Rutgers about how the world is divided between the US and USSR to spheres of interest, that is domination. I got a chance to ask him about the independence of the Baltic countries. I remember how he crinkled his nose as if he had smelled something bad and said: They belong to the Soviet Russian
sphere of influence. It meant possession. For the true Christian, it was faith that is absolute trust in God and the promises of Jesus Christ that looked forward in undying hope toward freedom. Today s reading from the Gospel of Matthew describes in the words of Jesus our weaknesses and strengths: (From the New Living Translation) Then Jesus prayed this prayer. O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding the truth from those who think themselves so wise and clever, and for revealing it to the childlike. Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle, and you will find for your souls. (Mt. 11:25.28.29b.c.). With Jesus Christ it is the law of the weak and not of the powerful rulers that governs. With Jesus there is no hopelessness for the small. In the end God is the winner and Jesus Christ has the solution in our personal lives and in world politics and the life of nations. A telling example is the bloodless dissolution of the Soviet Union similar to the breakdown of the Czarist empire 101 years ago. Both making it possible for Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania to become independent nations on the map of Europe. Freedom and democracy are gifts from God. Pastor Thomas Vaga is currently in the hospital after undergoing a difficult five-hour long open-heart surgery. His heart has been getting weaker and his cardiologist suggested a new LVAD (left ventricular assist) pump to be implanted in order to ensure proper circulation of blood. Aamen. Prayer for sick: Risen Savior, my heart is glad and my voice rejoices in your Easter victory. When you walked out of the grave on that first Easter morning, everything changed. You proved yourself to be true God and all your promises to be true. Your heavenly Father accepted your sacrifice for my sin and all sins completely and fully. Because you rose from the grave, I know that I will rise too. With resurrection power and confidence, help me stand firm in my faith and life, knowing that this victory over death and the grave is also my victory as well. And on first Pentecost you equipped the disciples with extraordinary gifts to proclaim the gospel to a variety of different cultures. Help me approach each day with confidence of Pentecost as you equip and encourage me in the service of your kingdom. Remind me that you continue to strengthen and sustain the faith in me through the hearing of your Word. Amen.
