Forgiveness has risen from the grave! What a wonderful joy fills us today as we ponder the inexhaustible mercy of God. When experienced, we are moved to do all in our power to avoid sin and embrace the loving presence of our risen God. God stands ever ready to receive us and wants nothing more than for us to come home. How reluctant we are to believe this truth! We want proof, tangible evidence and absolute assurance that what we have been told is true. Jesus has risen from the dead and brings us peace. It is the gift of wholeness and holiness that is breathed upon us by God s life-giving and healing mercy. May the rays of love that flow from the heart of Christ pierce ours! This Sunday was designated by Pope John Paul II to celebrate the Divine Mercy of Our Lord, as our former Pontiff was inspired by the writings of Sr. Faustina. We celebrate the mercy of Christ and recognize that no sin we have committed is beyond the reach of our merciful Lord, who gave his life as the ransom from sin. Special indulgences are extended to those who make a thorough examination of conscience and confession on this day. In the Gospel for this Sunday, we have the account of Jesus appearing to his apostles after his resurrection commissioning them to go out and spread the Good News and giving them authority to forgive sins. The generous forgiveness we find in Christ is made concrete in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The gift of this Sacrament is the potential for being lifted out of sin and guilt and being reconciled to the Father and to one another. Even the shame of our mistakes can be transformed into wisdom and compassion if we open our hearts to God s mercy. Ramadan begins on April 13. It is the annual month of fasting and prayer for Muslims. They abstain from eating during daylight hours until they celebrate Eid al-fitr. Christians and Muslims have similar roots in the Middle East. We both have traditions of praying during periods through out the day. Both emphasize mercy, pilgrimages, the belief in one God. We each are people of the book, Christians the Bible and Muslims the Koran. Muslims also have great respect for Jesus and Mary, as prophets and holy people within their tradition. Peace begins with mutual understanding, when we recognize our common strains, and begin to cooperate from there. Blessings upon the Ramadan of our neighboring Muslim communities. Scripture Quote for the Week Jesus said to them again, Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you. And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained. It was such a beautiful success that we would like to build on it with another Harvest of Hope project during this Easter season. This time we will provide blue Easter eggs at each parish. Please take one home and create a vision of HOPE, springtime, or new life through your decoration and short prayer on each egg. Once we have them all collected, we will include them on a living tree at each parish. Parishioners can read them and review the creativity and beauty of our people. You can also visit each parish to see where your egg may have landed We look forward to seeing everyone s final project. There will be eggs and a drop-off box at each parish entrance. Thank you in advance! Harvest of Hope Livestream Mass Looking for Mass virtually? St. Benedict, St. Martin, and Seven Dolors are now offering Masses LIVE. We are looking for technicians from these parishes to make the Mass accessible to those not joining us in-person. Training sessions will be available shortly. In the meantime, please subscribe to the various parishes YouTube channels and visit the website to catch Mass. Have you downloaded the myparish App? If not, you can download it from the Apple Store or the Google Play Store for free. Upon download, type in: Harvest of Hope Catholic Community and you will then have access to our calendar, bulletin, weekly readings, livestream Mass, and much more! If you would like assistance, please contact or see Jason Prigge, 356.0763. Please take time this week to read the April edition of The Central Minnesota Catholic, where you ll find stories of how our Catholic faith is transforming lives in positive ways. Visit: www.stcdio.org/annualappeal for information about the ministries of the appeal. Stewardship as a Way of Life: The community of believers was of one heart and mind, and no one claimed that any of his possessions was his own - Acts 4:32 All that we are and all that we have is a gift from God! Think of your family, your friends, your life, your talents and your money - these are all gifts from God! We aren t really owners of anything; we are merely stewards of the gifts God has blessed us with. We are called to be grateful and generous with all of our gifts for the benefit of others.
